Pterygotus
Pterygotus describes the genus of marine arthropods. These ancient marine animals lived during the early Silurian to Devonian periods, characterized by small to large exoskeletons with semilunar scales. It was the biggest arthropod of all time.
Locomotion
Could swim very fast by flapping its long flat tail up and down, using its legs to steer itself.
Fossil Locations
Europe and North America
What the Earth was like during the Devonian
There were two super continents, Gondwana and Euramerica located relatively close to each other in the southern hemisphere. The land was comparatively arid to the to the vast oceans that covered the rest of the globe. There were no glaciers and the temperature was relatively warm and dry.
