Raymond A. Price
Born on March 25, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Price is an award winning Canadian geologist who used his research in structure and tectonics of North America’s lithosphere to produce geological maps. Aspects of his career involved surveying the geography of Canada and he has also researched the role of science in public policy development, and nuclear waste disposal.

Education
Price obtained his Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Manitoba in 1955. At Princeton, he completed a Master’s degree as well as a PhD in geology in 1957 and 1958.
Career
After completing his PhD, Price began working in the Petroleum Geology Section of the Geological Survey of Canada, studying the structure and tectonics of the Cordillera of western Canada for the next ten years, producing geological maps of its features.
In 1968, he began working at Queen’s University as an Associate Professor and was Head of the Department of Geological Sciences from 1972 to 1977.
In 1981, he returned to the Geological Survey to be the Director-General for the next 7 years and since 1998. Price has been Professor emeritus of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s.
Contribution to Geology
Price’s research has given geology insights on the evolution of the Cordilleran foreland thrust and fold belt in Canada.
